DESCRIPTION:Rev. Eric Koehler meets with the Campolo scholars for their weekly fellowship meeting. \nBiography \nEric is the lead pastor at ValleyPoint Church in beautiful Glen Mills\, PA. Located 25 southwest of Philadelphia in Delaware County\, ValleyPoint serves people and communities in Delaware and Pennsylvania. At the speed of real relationships\, the strategy at ValleyPoint is to accelerate into the surrounding communities\, one after another\, and surprise them with the real truth of Jesus and the joyous impact of his church. \nFor twenty-seven years\, Eric has been married to his wife\, Tonia (a 1st-grade teacher at UrbanPromise in Wilmington\, Delaware). Together\, they have six children ranging in age from twenty-five to ten (including an Eastern graduate – 2019). Family time is fun\, generally loud\, and always filled with laughter. \nEric is currently completing his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Carolina University in Winston-Salem\, North Carolina. Eric’s personal purpose is to energize the church to be a godly and joyous presence where it lives\, works\, and plays.

Colin McCartney meets with the Campolo Scholars for their weekly fellowship meeting. \nBiography \nColin is an ordained minister and founder of Connect City which exists to connect young leaders to God’s mission in Toronto’s most vulnerable communities. Connect does this by raising up leaders who can plant unique expressions of church to serve the neighborhood in practical\, Jesus centered\, ways. Rev McCartney is also a popular speaker who has spoken to audiences as large as 7\,000 people and is also one of four Speakers who is on World Vision Canada’s speaking list. \nColin is an urban ministry veteran with over 30 years of ministry experience in high–risk communities and has authored two bestselling books (“The Beautiful Disappointment” and “Red Letter Revolution” – Castle Quay Publishers) and just completed two more books (“What Does Justice Look Like” and “Let The Light In” – Herald Press). He is also a writer for “Seven” Magazine. Colin also hosted the popular “Red Letters” DVD with Dr. Tony Campolo. \nColin is married to Judith McCartney and has two children – Colin Junior and Victoria McCartney. Colin served as a Pastor at Parkway Bible Church in Toronto and his ministry at this church was known for its creative and aggressive outreach to the community and especially to “at risk” youth. While serving as a pastor he birthed many ministries: a drop – in centre for troubled teens\, a ministry to young offenders\, a ministry to the local high school and a Church for unChurched youth. After thirteen years of serving at this church Colin and Judith created UrbanPromise Toronto and faithfully led this ministry serving vulnerable people in low – income neighborhoods. After fourteen years at UrbanPromise Colin and Judith had a burden to expand their calling to reach vulnerable people through churches by raising up young adult leaders. DESCRIPTION:Katie Hoyt McNabb meets with the Campolo Scholars for their weekly fellowship meeting. \nBio \nAfter graduating with a BA in Religious Studies from Yale\, Katie Hoyt McNabb continued her studies at Temple University\, earning her Master’s in Education while teaching high school English. When she and her husband began their family\, Katie retired from full time instruction\, but reengaged in education part time teaching parenting courses and then\, primarily\, adult Bible Studies at church. She published her first book\, Does It Really Say That in the Bible?\, in 2014 as an outgrowth of her now nearly twenty years in Adult Christian education. Currently\, she continues to teach at her home church\, while posting to her blog weekly and juggling the roles of wife\, mother of four adult children\, and grandmother of three youngsters.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. J.R. Briggs meets with the Campolo scholars for their weekly fellowship meeting. \nBiography \n\n\nDr. J.R. Briggs possesses four passions: Following Jesus\, equipping and investing in hungry kingdom leaders\, growing fruit on other people’s trees\, and creating good kingdom mischief. In short\, his calling is to partner with people who are called to follow Jesus while they lead others. \nIn 2011 he started Kairos Partnerships\, an organization committed to serving hungry kingdom leaders through leadership coaching\, consulting\, speaking\, teaching\, equipping and writing. \nFor more than 15 years\, J.R. served in pastoral roles in mega-churches\, church plants and house church networks. Since starting Kairos Partnerships\, he has served and invested in pastors and kingdom leaders in over 40 denominations throughout North America. \nIn addition to pastors and church planters\, he has also invested in a wide variety of leaders\, including business owners\, U.S. Olympic athletes\, business owners\, university administrators\, non-profit directors\, athletic directors\, and attorneys. \nHe is affiliate faculty member in practical theology at Missio Seminary and guest instructor at Friends University in the Masters of Arts in Spiritual Formation program. He has guest lectured\, taught and spoken at over a dozen colleges\, universities\, and seminaries around the U.S. \nHe also serves as the Director of Leadership & Congregational Formation for The Ecclesia Network and as a National Trainer and Strategist for Fresh Expressions U.S. \nHe has written\, co-written or contributed to eleven books on a wide variety of topics. His most recent book is The Sacred Overlap: Learning to Live Faithfully in the Space Between (Zondervan) He has also published articles in Christianity Today\, Huffington Post\, Preaching Today\, American Bible Society\, N.T. Wright Online\, Missio Alliance\, and Relevant Magazine\, among others (see full list here). \nHe co-hosts the Monday Morning Pastor\, a weekly podcast created to provide space for kingdom leaders to talk about ministry and leadership in raw and hope-filled ways\, and hosts the Resilient Leaders podcast\, a twice-weekly podcast equipping leaders to grow in their resilience in the new reality. \nHe serves on the Board of Directors with Jerusalem University College and the Board of Advisors for the Institute for Bible Reading. \nJ.R. and his wife Megan have been married for over 19 years and have two sons\, Carter and Bennett. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Lindy Backues meets with the Campolo Scholars to lead their forum meeting. \nBiography\nFor close to fifteen years Dr. Lindy Backues served as a professor at Eastern University in Philadelphia\, with publications\, writings\, and public speaking events exploring the interface between theology\, interfaith practice\, dialogue\, and community development\, especially nested in the midst of practical\, implemented\, participatory involvement. Dr. Backues took up full-time academic work after nearly two decades of direct community life in Indonesia\, where\, among his other accomplishments\, he founded a multidisciplinary\, multi-faith community empowerment\, non-government organization. Living in Indonesia from 1989–2007\, Dr. Backues worked primarily in the region of West Java amongst the Sundanese\, serving as Indonesia Country Director for Millennium Relief & Development Services (MRDS)\, headquartered in Houston\, Texas. He also served as MRDS program supervisor for tsunami response in Aceh\, North Sumatra between 2005 and 2007. As a university lecturer\, Dr. Backues has taught a wide variety of courses\, such as ”Epistemological Insights for Anthropological Practice\,” “Faith and Economic Justice\,” ‘Economic Development of Third World Countries\,” “Introduction to Microfinance\,” “Theology of Culture\,” and “Theology of Poverty.” He is presently at work on two book projects: one centered on interfaith dialogue and understanding (he is writing this in cooperation with a close Muslim friend and religious studies scholar from Indonesia)\, and another on the intersection of Christian faith and the political economy.

DESCRIPTION:Roy Goble meets with the Campolo Scholars to lead their forum meeting. \nBiography\nAn entrepreneur and real estate developer for the last 30 years\, Roy Goble grew up working in his father’s junkyard\, where he learned to take apart absolutely anything and to evaluate everything for the value of its parts. After studying economics and business at Westmont College\, and marrying his high school sweetheart\, D’Aun\, he joined his family’s growing real estate business. Today he runs a real estate investment company based in Silicon Valley\, leads the ministry PathLight International\, and serves on multiple boards—while still finding time to visit and learn from friends and ministry partners around the world. \nRoy is the author of Junkyard Wisdom: Resisting the Whisper of Wealth in a World of Broken Parts (Deep River Books\, 2016). His second book\, Salvaged: Leadership Lessons Pulled from the Junkyard\, was published by NavPress in January ‘2019. \nFollowing Jesus has turned out to be harder and better than he ever imagined\, and sometimes he misses the simplicity of selling parts in the junkyard. After thirty-five years of marriage\, however\, D’Aun tells him he already owns too many old cars.

When she and her husband began their family\, Katie retired from full time instruction\, but reengaged in education part time teaching parenting courses and then\, primarily\, adult Bible Studies at church. She published her first book\, Does It Really Say That in the Bible?\, in 2014 as an outgrowth of her now nearly twenty years in Adult Christian education. Currently\, she continues to teach at her home church\, Wayne United Methodist\, while posting to her blog weekly and juggling the roles of wife\, mother of four adult children\, and grandmother of three youngsters.

Brown-Grooms will be sharing from this experience and other insights to help us gain a deeper understating of Trauma\, Empathy\, and Christian Community.   \nBiography\nRev. Brenda Brown-Grooms is a member of the Charlottesville Clergy Collective and co-pastor of New Beginnings Community Church in Charlotesville\, VA.  Rev. Brown-Grooms has earned degrees from the University of Virginia and Union Theological Seminary\, and has studied the Hebrew Bible in the doctoral program at Vanderbilt University Graduate School of Religion.  In April 2017\, Rev. Brown-Grooms was a keynote speaker with Dr. Tony Campolo at the Red Letter Christian Revival in Lynchburg\, VA.  Rev. Hall is president of Renovaré. \nHall is author of a four volume set on the Church Fathers: Reading Scripture with the Church Fathers\, Learning Theology with the Church Fathers\, Worshiping with the Church Fathers\, and Living Wisely with the Church Fathers\, all published by IVP Academic. He also was associate editor of the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture (29 volumes: published by IVP Academic). \nChris previously served at Eastern University for twenty-four years in several roles\, including chancellor\, provost\, dean of Palmer Theological Seminary\, dean of the Templeton Honors College\, distinguished professor of theology\, and director of academic spiritual formation. \nDr. Hall possesses a B.A. from UCLA in history\, an M.A. in biblical studies from Fuller Theological Seminary\, a Th.M. from Regent College\, and a Ph.D. from Drew University. He has served in the pastorate overseas (France\, 5 years) and in Canada (British Columbia\, 2 years). He has also served as Director of Pastoral Care at New Jersey’s only state gero-psychiatric hospital. \nDr. Hall has ministered in Asia\, Africa\, South America\, Europe\, the Middle-East\, Canada\, and the United States. He served on the editorial board of Christianity Today. He has published articles and book reviews in Christianity Today\, Catalyst\, Christian History\, inMinistry\, Books and Culture\, Christian Scholars Review\, Modern Theology\, and Crux. \nHe and his wife Debbie reside in Philadelphia and have three children and two grandchildren. His B.S. in Psychology was from Colorado State University\, his M.Div. from Bethel Theological Seminary\, and his D.Min from Palmer Theological Seminary. \nDr. Pearson’s writing credentials include a number of curricular items mostly focused in Middle school/Jr. High Ministry areas. He speaks frequently at youth events and retreats and also preaches often at Evangelical Formosan Church of Philadelphia where he attends. He lives in Malvern\, PA.

DESCRIPTION:Topic\nA Christian Lawyer’s Journey to Wholeness in Christ \nPaul will share his story and journey to wholeness in Christ in three chapters: 1) Earlier years of growing up\, meeting Christ\, and cultivating faith; 2) Mid-life\, after college and graduate studies in law and theology\, and the challenge of making sense of dysfunctional family origins and putting faith in to practice (i.e. moving from the head to the heart); and 3) Wisdom years: what does it mean to be a Christian lawyer (or mechanic\, doctor\, etc)? And how is as Christian lawyer\, mechanic\, doctor different from any other highly competent and ethical person? Paul will help us to examine our lives and faith journeys and offer guidance and practices to finding wholeness in Christ. \nBiography\nPaul is an attorney practicing business and corporate law in Мinneapolis with the law firm of Wallen-Friedman & Floyd\, РА. Paul has been practicing law in Minnesota for more than 30 years\, having graduated from Bethel Seminary (M.Div.) and from William Mitchell Col­lege of Law (J.D.) in 1983. Не assists his clients in establishing and advising businesses\, drafting and negotiating sales\, employment and service contracts\, and advising\, lawyers\, law firms and small to mid-size businesses on legal related matters. ln addition\, Paul currently is lead faculty for the Capstone business planning course in the МВА program at Bethel University in St. Paul\, MN and teaches Health Law and Business Associations classes at St. Thomas College of Law in Minneapolis\, MN. \n
