Shining the Light of the Gospel in the Midst of a Pandemic

March 20, 2020

In the past week, our lives have all been turned upside down. Eastern University, due to the mandate by the State government, had to close to the public for 14 days. Students had to vacate their dorms by 5 pm on Monday. Across the country, schools, churches, and businesses have been shuttered. None of us imagined such a monumental shift was to come! None of us imagined such a monumental shift was to come!

I want to reassure you that Tony and Peggy are well. They have ceased travel and are safe at home, maintaining “social distance” in this time of crisis. We’ve been in contact with all of our scholars. They’ve returned to their homes and are each attempting to find a new normal while continuing their studies remotely.

It’s ironic that in this new era of forced isolation and distance, we find ourselves with perhaps more in common than ever before. The world over is facing the same invisible enemy and is feeling the same fears, anxieties, and uncertainties. This is an opportunity, we think, to shine the light of the gospel in a different way. Tony, the Campolo Scholars, and all of us at Eastern are praying for wisdom as to how to serve as witnesses to Christ in the midst of a pandemic.

May I ask you to pray alongside us? Please know that we are also praying for you. Send your prayer requests to rgauthier@eastern.edu  and we will pray for you when we meet together as a staff team (remotely!) on Tuesdays at 11 am.
