Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
“What is truth?” retorted Pilate.
JOHN 18:36-38A
Wow, what a year. It seems that, from all sides, truth is under attack. When I watch television and read news reports, it is a bit discouraging.
And then, some weeks ago at Easter, we heard the dismissive words of Pilate: “What is truth?” and remembered afresh that truth has long been disregarded.
But, then my thoughts come back to Eastern University. Then I look at the rising generation of church leaders. Then I interact with Campolo Scholars, promising young leaders we are supporting now, who are already heralding the truth in local churches.
It is a joy to see these rising leaders actively engaged in truth telling today. It is reassuring to see their tremendously high view of the church, and their efforts to be ‘salt of the earth’ and prophetic servants.
The truth is in good hands with our cohort of Campolo Scholars!
In a moment, I will share details of the productive efforts of the Campolo Center for Ministry – and suggest ways you can be a partner in these programs to mentor and equip needed leaders for the church.
But now, let me share just three areas of efforts, each of which I firmly believe is worthy of your prayer and financial support.
- Campolo Fellows: Each month the Campolo Center hosts a faith and thought leader to speak to the Eastern University community and to mentor and encourage the Campolo Scholars. From noted author Kent Annan to well-known activist Bryan Stevenson, these Fellows impart wisdom and encouragement to our growing cohort of Campolo Scholars.
- Tony’s Team: This group of seasoned ministry professionals support me in my ministry and supports our scholars. They lead book studies, regularly interact with our Fellows, and provide both program and administrative help to our Campolo Scholars. We would not be able to do what we do without them!
- Campolo Scholars: And, of course, we are so proud of and excited about our Scholars! We have a very strong cohort of talented future church leaders in place now and are actively recruiting more such promising leaders. These are women and men with great ability to serve the church and share the Good News!
During this summer, the Campolo Scholars are serving on missions teams, interning with churches, serving the poor, and sharing the truth of the Good News. Now is the time to take action:
Please pray regularly – from now through the end of summer, for our Fellows, Team members, and Scholars. May many hear and respond to the Good News of Jesus during these summer weeks as a result of their efforts through the Campolo Center for Ministry.
Please give generously – your support, right now, will help undergird all these ministry opportunities. You can make a one-time gift now – or even better, join as a Campolo Partner and give each month; learn more about the Campolo Partners Giving Program here: https://campolocenter.org/partner/
Eastern is the hub of many good things in ministry. And, the Campolo Scholars, living and training at Eastern, are heralds of truth in a world needing to hear it!
Yours in Christ, the King of Truth,
Tony Campolo
P.S. Please let us hear from you soon – now is the time to invest in the church’s declaration of truth through the work of the Campolo Center for Ministry! Join now and partner with Tony today!
