What does ministry ACTUALLY look like?

October 6, 2020

In recent days, we have highlighted some of the rising church leaders from the Campolo Scholars program.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to two very special alums, who happen to also be partners in ministry AND life!

Jon Galdames-Henry is a former Campolo Scholar and 2019 graduate of Eastern University. Jon has spent the last four years working with youth as the middle school boys’ small group leader at Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli, PA, helping run a homeless ministry with Michelle at Eastern University, and creating curricula for Pathways to Housing and St. Johns Baptist Church. He serves as the Youth and Young Adult Minister at Abiding Presence Church.

Michelle Galdames-Henry is also a Campolo Scholar alum; she graduated from Eastern with a B.A. in Youth Ministries in December of 2018 and now serves at Abiding Presence Church as the Children and Family Minister. She also did extensive coursework in biblical studies and theology. Jon and Michelle were married in the summer of 2019 and are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve in ministry alongside each other.

We were honored to have both Michelle and Jon join us as special guests for last week’s Monday Meeting (you can click the image below to watch the meeting). The topic of their discussion was: “What Ministry Is Not: Figuring Out What Ministry Actually Looks Like and How to Prepare.”

They thoughtfully based the conversation around Brené Brown’s “BRAVING” acronym, which stands for: Boundaries; Reliability; Accountability; Vault; Integrity; Non-judgement; Generosity. As a group, we covered a variety of important topics, including the lesser-mentioned trials of day-to-day vocational ministry (dealing with volunteers, budgets, relationship building, time management, etc).

It’s a tremendous encouragement to watch as Tony’s vision for raising up future leaders of the Church is coming to fruition in young people like Jon and Michelle. And we thank you for your vital role in partnering with the Campolo Center for Ministry to make that happen. God bless you!

PS. You are invited to join us for a special virtual homecoming event with Tony, Peggy, and the Campolo Scholars on Saturday, October 10th from 1:30 to 2:30 pm Eastern Time. You won’t want to miss this special occasion – Tony’s first public since his stroke! Registration is required. Click here to register now.
