A Prayer for Students

August 19, 2021

Can you believe it’s time for “back to school” already? Eastern students are moving in this week, and classes begin on August 30!

As the summer draws to a close, I’m thinking about our scholars – both new and returning – and their dreams, plans, and challenges. This year will be full of new adventures, but with all things new come struggles, fears, doubts, and worries, especially in such turbulent times as these.

I’d like to take a few moments to offer a prayer… for the Campolo Scholars and for all students entering a new academic year.

Dear Lord,

I lift up to you the students, both near and far, returning to their studies this week. I ask that you would be near to them. May each of their classes and interactions bring fresh joy and inspiration to their work.

I pray that, in the midst of the challenges and fears of the ongoing COVID crisis, that you would grant them the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Guard their health and their spirits.

I pray that our students would develop an eternal perspective and purpose, not an earthly one. Help them to see life, and its struggles, through your eyes. Set their minds on things above.

I pray that they would be rooted in your love. Make them eager and unafraid to serve wholeheartedly and humbly – sharing the good news of Jesus through both word and deed.

Grant us wisdom as we strive to walk alongside and nurture them, that they would be equipped to live out your calling on their lives.

In Christ’s name,

Amen
